This web site is great. I am having so much fun seeing the names and trying to remember who is who. Although I did not graduate in 65, (I graduated in 64) I have been able to reconnect with some old friends. Recently I attended the reunion for St .Genevieve high school for the classes of 68 and 69. I saw Bob Strong there and he looked terrific. Many of us who did graduate from St. Bridget's in 64 are trying to find others that graduated in the same year. Our hope is to have a reunion.
Your web site has enabled us to locate some missing people. Jerry Kearns and I have been emailing each other and I recently connected with Jaime Fernandez (class of 64). Jaime lives in Costa Rica and I will be visiting him there next week.
The memories that come flooding back from seeing old friends is quite humorous. At the St. Gen's reunion, my dear friends from both St. Bridget and St. Gens started right back where we left off 33 years earlier. Those people were Cathy Farquhar
and Cheryl DeDonato. Thanks for the memories and if anyone is in the Northern California area, send me a note and we'll get together.
On a serious note, my brother Bert Francis has been missing and persumed dead for 6 years now. Unfortunately he was into drugs and his homosexual life style, coupled with dealing with people in the fast lane did not lend itself to longevity. His last known whereabouts was Puerta Vallarta. He always maintained contact with our younger sister Kathy and she hasn't heard from him in 6 years. I pray that he is in peace wherever he is. Many of you have sent me your memories of Francis and I thank you all for that. I've said enough for the first input. My best to all of you. Take Care, Sandy

Sandy it was good sharing e-mails with you, and I hope we get a chance to lunch together when you and your husband bring your daughter down next month to start at UCSD.
As far as Bert goes, he's been out of touch for a long time, but we really
don't know his status, do we? With all respect, it will take a lot more for me to consider him deceased. I have another friend who was presumed dead, but she was just off on her own sorting things out for a while. Like Bert, her lifestyle and politics made her a target for a lot of flack, much of it unwarranted. But if Bert is indeed gone, we'll all join him soon enough. And I for one will demand right off that he clear up the mysteries of his final years!

I was playing on the computer and listening to some Napster downloads when I heard the phrase "finding your skate key" in the music. I smiled and thought that I hadn't thought of skate keys in quite awhile -- probably since my days at St. B's. As I listened to the song, I found lots of other things that brought back memories of that era so I thought I would jot the words down and share them.

They were sung by Lea Salonga and somebody, I forget who, and I think that the song may have come out of one of the Disney cartoon movies -- but I'm not sure of that either. Anyway, count the memories; count the smiles...

Happiness is two kinds of ice cream;
Finding your skate key; telling the time.
Happiness is learning to whistle;
Tying your shoe, for the very first time.
Happiness is playing the drum
In your own school band.
And happiness is walking hand in hand.

Happiness is five different crayons;
Knowing a secret; climbing a tree.
Happiness is finding a nickel;
Catching a fire fly; setting him free.
Happiness is being alone every now and then.
And happiness is coming home again.

Happiness is morning and evening;
Daytime and night time too.
For happiness is anyone and anything at all
That's loved by you.

Happiness is having a sister;
Sharing a sandwhich; getting along.
Happiness is singing together
When day is through.
And happiness is those who sing with you.

Happiness is morning and evening;
Daytime and night time too.
For happiness is anyone and anything at all
That's loved by you.

It's been great reconnecting with you all...

That was nice to read "Billy" ...I am afraid you are all still Billy's, Tommy's and Bobby's to me.!
Wow... skate keys... they were always hard to find...
How about the 'Milk Man' delivering milk to our back doorstep or... in our neighborhood 'Frank the Vegetable Man' would drive up in his produce truck and honk for the neighbor ladies to come out and buy fresh vegetables...
'Piggily Wiggily's'... no such store in Arizona
Or going to the butcher shop with sawdust all over the floor and the butcher would offer kids a piece of hot dog to snack on...
For me turning 50 started out to be just an awful thing... but it's turning out to be not bad at all...
Love to all of my dear old schoolmates...
p.s..... my brother Kevin Patrick was a '63 graduate and I want to get him connected. His email is if anyone out there was in that class.

I have to agree with Kathleen turning 50 is not that bad, remembering and reconnecting with all of you has brought back great memories. I remember all of you as little children; when I see your names I relate to the kids we were, such great memories. I also remember the Piggly Wiggly, the grand opening of Ralph? Market at Saticoy and Louise. Little Oscar was there on his Oscar mobile handing out whistles. Kathleen do you remember "Shorty" who use to come down your street and offer pony rides for a small fee? I remember riding my bike with Madelene Neil each day to St. B. Do you remember the Helms Bakery truck that use to come down the street selling goodies in the back of his truck? I could go on and on. Reconnecting with all of you has really been a wonderful experience. I am getting attached to all of you and hope some day soon we can all see each other again.

Class of '72 (30 years . . OUCH!) Thanks for this website. I am #5 of the Miller family. Some of you "older folks" might remember my older brothers Steve and Bruce. We were neighbors of Paul & Napoleone. The family moved north to Portland in the 70's.

I walked into the reunion wondering if I would have a good time. I haven't seen my classmates and school mates both younger and older for over thirty-five years. I was amazed how everyone seemed to pick up right were they left off. Some of the nuns were there and gave me the opportunity to thank them for all they did for me. Without them, I'm sure I would not be where I am today. thanks to the reunion committee for a great job. I keep thinking about the movie stand by me. the movie ends with Richard Dryfuess finishing his book about his grammar school friend who was killed with the words something like this, "do you ever have friends as close as you did when you were a kid in school."

Hello classmates: First my thanks to Paulette for her detective work tracking me down via E-mail last year. Through her tricky work and Derrick's handy computer skills I was connected up to the Classmates list. Last year I learned that our little buddy Scot Forrest was sick and needed company. Only through your E-mail I found that Scot lived off the Hollywood Freeway, I had been driving by his house for years as I drive to LA. I was able to visit Scot, as some of you did, may times before his passing in December. If it wasn't for Paulette I would have not understood the real need to keep track of old friends. As I looked at our class picture in the hallway many memories came back. Yes, Scot was there with us for the reunion, his smile was the same. I wish I could have talked to everyone but the night went quick. I was trying to figure out who else helped me deliver the milk from the guest house to the classrooms? Because we used to drink our weight in chocolate milk daily before it got to the classes. That is why everyone else only got the white milk! I think it is great for those who travleled from Texas,Colorado, Washington, Oregon, Arizona back to Van Nuys. I appreciate the hardwork from the reunion committee. Looking forward to another reunion / hot dog day in 2005. Father Paul Koenig, thanks for the emotional service before the reunion. God Bless and protect you all, Gary Lynch

I, too, would like to add many thanks to the Class of '65 for hosting the '60s Reunion. Special thanks to those of you directly involved setting everything up -- it was Fabulous! What a Blast!! I only wish there had been a few more of us from the Class of '62 (ya know, the first graduating class of St. Bridget's.) I enjoyed it thoroughly -- even though you guys are younger we still remember you, mostly those of you who had older brothers and sisters. Perhaps we can do this again -- only not wait so long. And, whoever wrote that bit about having the kind of friends that you had (or should it be have) in grammar school, I think not! God Bless you all. And, thank you for remembering.

I had so much fun seeing everyone. I graduated from Class of '66 and you guys were the older "cool kids". I cracked up at seeing Jack Klosterman again and remembering how intimidated my friend Pamela Sanders and I were everytime we had to walk by him and...was it Russ Monteferri? Oh my God, our hearts would pound and we would just hurry by. Those guys were sooooo much older!! I want so badly to have in our class of '66 the same unity that you all have. I must say that I am quite envious. Will write again. Regards, Cindy Marocco

Hi, Selyna:
I'm encouraged that the website is useful for something other than nostalgia. Your note also goes to underscore how much has changed in 38 years. If you had submitted a message to Sister Margaret Ursula in '64 without proper capitalization and including your numerous non-standard abbreviations...... let's just say that "recess" would have become a foreign concept and dim memory to you.
Hope 2 hear from u again. ;->

This is amazing!!! I was looking at my son's schools web site and said "what the hell"; wonder if St. Bridget has anything, and WOW. Not sure what happened to the class of 1967, I hope you don't have to be 50 to get your act together. Anyway, I have been in the San Diego area since 1969. I have seen Jim Sullivan (class of 1966)a few times, in fact or sons played on the same basketball team one season. Father Paul Koenig ... oh my god!! He used to be my carpool ride to Crespi. During a conversation he mentioned the name of a former teacher, he only gave me the last name of Mullins. Would it be possible to locate a photo of Mr. Mullins during his tenure (approx 1962-1965). We are putting together a collage as a surprise and any assistance you could provide would be most gratefully, appreciated!

Well, I just played in the 17th annual golf tourney for Notre Dame hign with Steve Whitmore and Jack "Chief mulligan" Klosterman and I had to jump into the guest book asap. Between the reunion last May and my alumni connections to Santa Clara University, it has been a great 18 months playing rock with Poltl and Hospodar (Dino, stege, and Billy), playing in college alumni games (who can say they were on TWO teams that were blown out @ Pauley Pavilion by the Walton Gang).

But I have to say that last May 18th was THE Highlight of all these alumni experiences and its a BLAST to participate in all of my alma mater functions

Hot dog Day cannot come soon enough; the memories of my own Mother working with the other Moms on that special day of the week still touch me.

So, Kathleen, Paulette, Jane, and Terry get on that next get together as I need to see my extended family asap.

I was playing music at a car show when I heard a voice behind me say, "Hey, Mike!" I turned around and saw the Chief of the Fire Dept. smiling at me, as if he was my longlost friend. It turns out that he was; a good friend from my days at St. Bridget's, Kevin Kearns. I remember him as a very kind, athletic kid in my class. He made sure I got my chance to get up to bat during baseball. Not surprising that he helps people now as a firefighter.
I was in the Class of '68. I hope to see some photos and info. about my class. I would enjoy hearing from other classmates and hearing their stories. If anyone is interested in what I'm doing now, please email me.

Many doubting Thomases dispute James Brown's attendance at St Bridget.
All we know is that when Father McGoldrick turned to the congregation, spread his arms in blessing and said: "Ita missa est," everyone in the first 12 pews rose and shouted, "I feel good!"

I found this site searching for Mr. Vallone... it's Teacher Appreciation Week!
I missed the reunion hosted by the Nau family in 1999 because baby #4 Joseph was practicing for delivery .. he was born Oct 5 99.
I am married to Pete Barkauskas brother of Louisville classmate Ursula (class of 78). We have 4 children and are living in the rural area of Lancaster, CA.
My eldest is delayed enlistment for the USMC and leaves for MCRD in July, but he tested out well enough for Security Forces, Presidential Detail!!! Okay so I am a really proud Mom. :0)My other kids are 14, 6 and 4 so I am kept busy.
Pete still judges hunting dog competitions, and we still have quite the zoo going on at our house.
Hope all is well with everyone and the next reunion I'll actually be able to attend!

Hi my name is Carmel and i have just graduated from St. Bridget this June. St. Bridget was like my secound family and i always felt very safe and happy there. I first came to the school in 3rd grade and i felt very welcome there and all the teachers were very nice. I made friends that i will cherish forever and was taught by teachers that really love their job. I will never forget my many happy memories at St. Bridget and am very thankful to all the faculty who make differences in all their students lives!!

**CLASS OF '89**
Well it looks like Michael Ryan has started our page up already. I have some photos to add too. It's great to have this site to keep in touch and even possibly locate those people who graduated from St. B's. We have been trying to get a reunion together but have fallen short because of the difficulty we've had locating the class. So any class of '89 out there email me so I can start compiling a list of alums. It's funny because there is still a really close group of us who have stuck together all these years. Dan Romandi was my best man when I got married in Sept '03 Chris Bateson & Rob Nary were my groomsmen. Vince Cavallo & Ricky Garcia are as close as any of those guys too. We still see Billy Yount pretty often as well as Joey Jabro. We?ve lost 2 classmates to car accidents Carrie Macleod and Frank Augone. Danny Augone who is an active U.S Marine just got back from Iraq. We have remained very close to him since Frank died back in ?94. A few cool pieces of info on the class of ?89: Rob Nary married Amy Miller who left St.B?s after 2nd grade (I think). They got married in ?99 and just had their 1st baby. A girl who they named Bridget after the elementary school they first met at. Danny Romandi will be married later this year to Danielle Veralrud. They also 1st met at St. B?s. This is one of the closest group of 8th grade friends I?ve ever heard of. I am 30 years old right now and I can honestly say that my best friends are the guys the I grew up with. The guys from St. Bridget of Sweden School. BTW for those of you who have totally lost touch Mr. Pawlak is still the Principal. Also, Michael Ryan I tried e-mailing you but it came back bad address. Hope to hear from a bunch of people. If anyone wants to get a hold of anyone I mentioned in this post contact me & I?ll give you their info!

Hello, St. Bridget Faculty, Alumni, and Students!

Wow... My mom had recently told me about this website, which i was once familiar with during my years at St. Bridget. She told me about a guestbook entry i submitted in February of 2003. I replied to her with a, "Really? No i Didn't... I don't even remember... No way!" Apparently, my grammar usage was horrific according to the moderator of this site. Not St. Bridget School's teaching, however-- just the influence of the internet slang that kids used (and still use to this day!)

As of now, I am an incoming junior at Bishop Alemany High School. I love Alemany, but St. Bridget has always been like a second home to me. In concern about the necessity for the contact among St. Bridget kids all over, I even created a group on a popular Blog Website called "Myspace" titled "St. Bridget Kids Own." Ever since my graduation from St. B's in 2003, i have persisted in being active in the St. Bridget Parish as a devout choir member and eucharistic minister. I also continue my participation in the St. Bridget Summer Productions; past performances including "Grease" and "Guys and Dolls". This year, our wonderful directors: Mary Beth Babcock, Peggy Sloniker, Marcos Mendoza, and Pat Cosentino, have decided on the 50s musical, "Pajama Game". Come watch it!

In the future, I hope to see more information on this website about alumni (especially recent graduating classes), upcoming events in the school and parish, and a contact list of all alumni! Hopefully I've helped with a few new, fresh ideas for the St. Bridget website, and that they will be taken into consideration. I also hope my grammar usage is a lot more accurate than my last entry. ;D

Please feel free to contact me!
Take care everyone-- God Bless! :)

Selyna <>
Van Nuys, CA USA - Friday, June 17, 2005 at 15:08:47 (CDT)
Personally I am outraged at Selyna's recent request to see "more information on this website about alumni, (especially recent graduating classes)." I know that my classmates and many, many others share in this outrage, and I am going on record to say that I will do everything in my power to assure that this website never has any info about St. Bridget alumni, nor shall there ever be any e-mail links or phone numbers of former alumni, nor their photos and never any pictures of their quaint Schwinn alumni bicycles, that's for sure!

What does Selyna think this website is, a public gathering place to share memories and info on SB alumni so that we can stay in touch and make fun of Bill Sumo Tanner whose uber-enormous belly has upset the geophysical equilibrium between Washington State and the San Andreas fault, triggering earthquakes and the Dodgers' sad streaks, performances so dismal that Our Lady of Perpetual Sorrow could fill the Sepulveda basin with her tears?

No, children, we need to nip this movement Selyna is trying to start in the bud.
It reminds me of the formative Wonder Year days four years ago when this site was first launched back when Selyna was still playing with her Barbie dolls and keeping out of our way. There were crazy ideas back then, too. Bryne Miller and Jack Klosterman suggested, "Hey, I know why don't we put the names and photos of SB alumni on a website?"

Yes, those two blasphemers were up to their old antics, but thankfully there were some cool feminine heads among the rowdy rabble Byrne and Jack were foolishly attempting to rouse. Leave it to the women, they turned the tide, twirling in their starched cotton blouses and pressed green plaid skirts, and the Byrnes and Jacks miraculously followed them anywhere, deja-vu from '65 I'd say.

Women of stature, women who ride motorcycles without helmets such as Paulette Napoleon and women who run marathons like they were morning walks, such as Kathleen Patrick, and women like Terry Malouf who ride bicycles up mountains as well as down hills (I know, this sounds outlandish, but it's been documented), all of them came forth as in a heavenly choir and chanted:

"Absolutely no alumni should be allowed on this site, only former students will be included!"

And so who am I to argue with a choir of crazy marathon biker chicks?

I'll tell you, I am nobody if I'm not at the least some crazy biker chicks' stenographer.

So I've been writing it all down, just the way they told me, and aint nuthin gonna change it, not even some smarty whippersnapper SB Class of 2003 student like Selyna can make us stop our wizened ways.

So Selyna, take your newfangled ideas and repent. There is still time for you to get on the divine bandwagon honoring former students, and to eschew forever any errant memorials to alumni. What are "alumni" any way? Just a pretentious Latin word that should be obliterated like the traditional Latin Mass, don't we all agree?

BTW, Selyna, in case U want this website to display info on SB's "recent graduating classes," mayB U + ur frends should get off your ]B's + e-mail me some class of 03 photos & lists of students names? U didn't think those pix wud just jump up + send themselves, did u?

Until then:
"Alumni: we're a-gin 'em!"

How many from the class of '62 - the first class!!- remember the days when Sister would have us stand and recite The Touch of the Master's Hand or how often she trusted us (not always a good idea) to do our work while she went to the office? Hi Guys,

I am sadden by the news that our classmate and friend Jim Carter died December 28. His brother Don called me today to inform me. There is no word on cause of death yet. Mr. and Mrs. Carter have requested that the service for Jim be private and attended by immediate family only.

Perhaps this New Years we can all remember our friend by lifting a glass and toasting his life and recalling all the laughs he brought to us.

I will miss him.

Save us a place in line, Jim

This is a great site to view messages. I see so many family names that I recognize. I haven't seen many from the graduating class of 1970. Where is Marilyn Stege, Patti Macrorie, Kathy Kerze, Jeff Dashnaw. Steven Malcolm,.?
Does anyone know?

Kathy, other than the Class of 1970's names given us by Donna Lynch, no one else has submitted any info or photos on your classmates. Do you still have any student or family pictures from that era? If so, please send them to me and I will link them from the St.Bridget 1970 page.
You might try John Stege or Roseanne Stege to get info on reaching Mary Lynn.

Just came across this site as I was looking up other information and had to say hi. I was in the class of '83 tho I love the picture from 7th grade - I missed picture day that year...hehehe and the one from 4th grade is the day after I decided to cut my own bangs for the 1st time! oh goodness! I am currently living with my girlfriend and her extended family including a step-daughter. I assist with her successful spice/sugar internet business and am finally working on my college degree with the interest of becoming a Marriage/Family Therapist.
Thanks to those who created a space for us to check in and remember.

Hi, Lorrie:

Nothing definitive has reached my ears. I'll e-mail everyone and post a notice on our home page if anything develops.

Hi, I came across this website by chance. I would have graduated with the class of 1976, but my father's career took us to San Jose, California. I recognize alot of names. I hope everyone in the class of 1976 is alive and well.

Next year the School will be celebrating its 50th Anniversary. Rumor has it that there will be many activites planned throughout the year. Class reunions are in the works but finding ulums is the problem for the committe. Even bigger than that Mr. Pawlak is planning on hosting a Charity Poker Tournament. I will post again when I know more. If anyone has any questions or wants to leave their contact info for the renuions send me an email.

Hi everyone,
Lorraine, I owe you a call, wonderful to read your post,(hi Rosanne, and John!). Mom, the side-kick with Mrs. Stege selling those hotdogs and carnival tickets, is having a wonderful 80th year, and the rest of the Caudle clan is thriving. I have two grandchildren, and I am a great aunt to 4, so we are continuing to grow. Please include me on the reunion list, I would love to see all of you at the next gathering!! I wish all of you a joyous holiday season and a prosperous new year.
